A challenging and rewarding role: Assembly Chair recruitment process to start Feb 2021

In my last blog (23 November 2020) I urged voluntary sector organisations involved in health and social care in Norfolk and Waveney to get involved in the Assembly, to ensure that it is as representative as possible of the sector and the people we support.  This time I am entreating individuals to come forward, to consider standing as Chair for the new Assembly.

The Assembly Steering Group and the Norfolk and Waveney Health and Care Partnership will soon be starting the process of appointing a Chair of the Assembly and it is a role that, as Chair of the Assembly Steering Group, I know will be both challenging and rewarding.

The Chair will be representing and advocating for the VCSE sector on the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System Partnership Board which is responsible for the strategic health planning of the area, so will need to have good local knowledge of the VCSE sector, yet they must also be impartial. They must be a good communicator and a strategic thinker, skilled at identifying opportunities for partnerships, collaboration and transformation.  They need to encourage diversity of voices, listen and reflect.

This does sound like a formidable wish list, but I know from my time as Chair of the Steering Group, working with colleagues from the health, public and voluntary sectors, that there are some incredibly knowledgeable and skilled professionals in Norfolk and Waveney, and beyond, who are dedicated to improving health and social care in our area and who recognise the role of the voluntary sector in achieving this.  We aim to harness this talent and passion in the appointment of the Assembly Chair.

  • Details of the appointment process will be announced in February 2021
  • The Chair will be appointed through a two-step panel approach, consisting of an Appointment Panel (formed by senior representatives from the VCSE, health and social care), and a Stakeholder Panel comprising representatives from the wider VCSE and Norfolk Health and Care Partnership, who will be asked to canvass for questions ahead of the selection process.
